Sunday lunch, The Midnight Bell, Leeds

Walking in to the The Midnight Bell felt like having a really good cuddle. Stepping in from the bitter cold winds in to a warm and homely pub felt heavenly. I brought with me guests from Spain and I wanted to give them a fantastic Sunday roast experience. I knew instantly that I had chosen a good place, warm, cosy and brilliantly British.

The decor and atmosphere were exactly what I was looking for, there was mulled wine on the bar, everything was looking good….. I just hoped the food would match.

I was very pleased! We all chose roast beef but I’m sure the other options would be equally as delicious. The beef was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavourful, good Yorkshire pudding, great veg and beautiful beef and ale gravy. I have never tasted cabbage as nice! When even the cabbage impresses me, you know it’s a winner! There was plenty of food, enough to make you feel like you needed a nap afterwards but not so much that quality was compromised. In fact, the only thing I would change is that I would add stuffing. I was looking forward to showing our Spanish guests a proper roast experience in Leeds and was disappointed in the lack of stuffing. That said, they loved it and I can’t wait to return!
