I love this time of year! Crumbles, pumpkin pie, root vegetables and all things Ginger!
I love to make occasion appropriate food and drink. Each October at Halloween I will make Gingerbread, Ginger cake, Pumpkin Pie and Dark and Stormy cocktails!
Gingerbread men recipe
- 350g plain flour
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 125g butter
- 175g soft brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp golden syrup
Sift together in a bowl the flour, bicarbonate of soda and spices. Rub in the butter to make breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
In a separate bowl beat the egg and golden syrup together, add to dry mixture to make a dough.
Preheat the oven to 180C, grease baking tray.
Roll the dough out to desired thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using cutters, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them.
Bake for about 10-15 minutes until lightly golden-brown.
Decorate when cooled.
